Happy Chinese New Year January 26, 2009

Today is “Chu Er” or what Chinese all over the world would consider as the 2nd day of Chinese New Year. With this deserving break and an unexpected writing mood, I found some desire to blog out of randomness. This post being, a few months after my last, I have to say the least that my new job has pretty much consumed so much of my energy and time.

To set the mood right, I have just returedn from a trip to Genting this afternoon together with my parents. Leaving the hardlands of Singapore to the icy cool floors of the casino is our way of expressing our respect to the celebratory day. Having said that, only my parent gambled as I was more intent on walking and looking at people playing.

This trip solidified my observations on myself – and that I have long lost my desire to visit and be around people for CNY. It is however, a great opportunity for me to recharge myself. Since I do not feel obliged and I do not need to visit my relatives,  my greetings to all who are related to me – to have bountiful fortune and health!

My Last day October 16, 2008

My last day at work officially ends on 14 Oct 2008, 6pm. It would have worked out to exactly 1 year and 2 months. I admit to most that I have been counting down and looking forward to it very much. Even up to my last day, I was still hectically preparing reports, working overtime. As much as I want to, I didn’t get a timely good chance to say my goodbyes to many. So here it goes:

Dear Colleagues and Clients,

The time has come to say good-bye and I wish to let you guys know that I am truly leaving here with mixed feelings. I am looking forward to my new career opportunity but sad to be leaving such a group of wonderful people. It has been great interacting and knowing each one of you. My one year in Hewitt team has enabled me to work and learn a great deal from many people with whom I am sure I will remain friends for a long time.

I can only wish that my new job will give me such rewarding experiences.

Thank you so much for making my time at Hewitt a truly enjoyable one. My very best wishes for the future go out to each and every one of you.

Yours sincerely,

Regards,
Lee Sen Jensen

To whom it may concern,

The mail is composed in appreciation of the benevolent heart and kindness of KFC – as an humanistic organization to contribute effectively back to our society. I am compelled to react favorably, and show my admiration to the management decision to hire senior citizens and less fortunate individuals at part of their service crews.

On 09 Oct 2008, I visited KFC Takashimaya, Basement 1, at around 8pm. During and after the meal, I noticed a member of the KFC crew – an elderly lady (around 60-70 years old) clearing the trays into the trash bin opposite the hand washing basin. She was moving along the table aisle slowly with timid smalls steps, taking humility in clearing the table before shuffling the dirty trays back to the bin. All during this period, she wore a smile. A whole dignified expression of work gratification.

I was struck with immense heartfeltess and empathy for the lady. She was not the fastest nor the most capable worker, but that is irrelevant. In my opinion, she works hard to earn herself a honest meal with her two bare hands, irregardless of age and physical capacity.

Many credits goes to KFC to hire and give her to opportunity to stand up proudly for herself. I am conscious of your organization efforts and I duly devote my “thank you” to your charitable cause.

In Appreciation

Today, I have tendered my resignation.

My boss seemed pretty cool about it and her reaction was certainly nothing short of boring. If fact, she had an expression of indifference. There was no drama yelling or tearing of letters, just some good’o’ advice to show her concern and congratulations. It was like going through a reharsed dialogue. Anyway, I could’nt care less where her intentions lies. The most important takeaway from that converstion is my last day of service. I have 1 month to go. Or like what singaporeans like to term it as: “ord mode”

I shall not despair as I have found an employment in a seemingly better place. Tucked away In the far-northern industrial sector of Sinagpore – Senoko. The location is not exactly scenic, or what I would dream off waking up to everyday. Nonetheless, I have no complains. As much as loyalty and commitment to my current organisation goes, I have to put my interest as a priorty. There was also a slight push factor in my current job.

Better pay, better benefits, better prospects and most importantly, doing something I might possibly enjoy and hopefully excel in it. So why not

1 year anniversary August 15, 2008

Exactly one year ago, I joined Hewitt Associates.

Today, I woke up religiously to my daily routine of traveling down Science Park, entering into the familiar domain of my messy yet comfortable desk. As of 15 Aug 2008, I have surpassed my first year of hardship and toils of arguably my first permanent employment. Hence, I shall congratulate this special 1 year anniversary to myself and to the organization for its ability to retain talented individuals. Although 1 year is not entirely long, put it in relative perspective, at least 8 out of my 10 colleagues I worked with previously – have left.

Apart from the unhealthy statistics, I have thoroughly enjoyed and experienced a great deal at my work. Well, I guess looking back, the opportunity to work in this organization has developed me in a way that I think I have been privileged. (no pun intended)

Looking ahead now

I had written a previous post on this particular movie and I made a mistake.

Its not Ang Lee but John Woo.

Nonetheless, with a production cost of $80 million (supposedly the most expensive movie ever made in Chinese Cinema history) and besides reports that the movie is over budgeted, running behind schedule, actors walked off, on, then walked off the set again — its all very exciting.

It opens 11 July in Singapore.

Red Cliff or “Battle of Chi Bi” (赤壁之战) embraces an enduring cornerstone of the highly popular novel – Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I did however read somewhere that the movie storyline would actually relate more closely to the historical text rather then more fascinating and often exaggerated novel plot. Starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Lin Chi Ling, this a historical event is set in 208 AD when the faltering Han Empire was in de-facto controlled by 3 warlords. Northern Wei embarked on a expedition against the south where the other 2 warlords – Shu and Wu, setup an allegiance to defend their territories. An epic encounter which saw a force of fifty thousand defeating an army of nearly a million through ingenious stratagems and tactics.

Highlights June 22, 2008

Its been a while since I blogged.

Highlights for the pass weeks.

I went and returned safely from my 10 days reservist. While there, I hallucinated and sandfly bites left me a week long of scratching. I felt like a monkey.

I passed my Ippt. Not Gold. Not Silver. Just pass

I was supposed to go for a run which I paid for. But I could not do it because I had a bad case of hangover. I was scared if I did run, I might just die. Since then, I have been wearing the singlet provided by running organizers; as if I completed the race. But actually i didn’t.

I have been staying late for work so often that I did not see my father for almost a week. It also caused my mum some distress about her cooking skills, because it seems to her that I have been avoiding her dinner.

I received a call from a lady telling me I have been selected to win some travel vouchers. I was about to collect my “gift” when I was informed that it was a hoax. I felt so cheated. In the end, I decided it is fair to put her aeroplane.

I have been frequently having Macdonald’s nuggets – specifically the new spicy nugget. It is so tasty I couldn’t believe it took so long for them to invent it.

Yesterday – 10 May 2008, marks the day I finished my last paper of my last semester.

I am graduating and I feel so fortunate just thinking about.

In other words, the meaning of Lessons, Assignment, Exams, will soon just be some painful flashing memory as part a lousy experience while growing up. In retrospect, I have overcame about 20 months of intense sickeningness of having school related deadlines constantly in the back of my mind.

When I play, when i work, when i sleep..

Tonight, I am going to burn my all my lesson timetable.
